#1: Obese people are liable to die young!
Obesity reduces life expectancy with about 10years! This is one of the reasons you see few fat elderly people. Obesity, like smoking, is one of the leading preventable causes of death. Obesity is declared “the most serious public health problem of the 21st century”. An obese smoker is, by implication, living a suicide mission.
#2: Obesity is a disease that causes other diseases!
If ever asked to mention a cause or risk factor for developing any disease, and you say “obesity”, you will, most times, be correct! You could also mention smoking! Obesity is linked to hypertension, stroke, diabetes, erectile dysfunction, cancer, arthritis, infertility, migraines, birth problems, asthma, back pain, sleep problems, et cetera.
#3: Being obese might make you uncomfortable in your skin and in your society
In a world where slim is healthy and “fat is ugly”, obese people might feel uncomfortable and overly self-conscious. Laziness, and gluttony are wrongly implied. The fat folks are stigmatized. They hardly get clothes that fit: they feel out of place! Consequently, obese people are prone to several psychosocial problems and mental disorders, especially clinical depression (and low self-esteem).
#4: Diet plans and “watching of weight” almost always never work!
Diets hardly works. Bitter truth. It fails about 90% of the time. This is because they are usually unnatural and so hard to sustain. It is difficult because most diet plans keep you hungry for most time, forbidding most of the food you love, making life horrible. People eventually are fed up, and quit. Being obese is challenging.
#5: Managing obesity usually takes a lot of money, energy, and time.
Exercise alone will not take care of the problem. You might need to consult regularly with a nutritionist, a gym trainer, and a counsellor. You might need a support partner or group. You must see your doctor for regular check up and investigation. Your doctor might decide to place you on some drugs or even perform a surgery before your issue is settled.
Hmmm…gotta go! My kitchen calls! Yeaah! It’s cooking time!
